(e

{.

f.

House Document No. 465, 89th Congress, 2nd Session, and in compliance with

Executive Order 11988, Floodplain Management, effective May 24, 1977.

NEED FOR STUDY

Because of recent developments in the study area, namely housing and

other related uses, there is an immediate need for a detailed flood hazard

study. The study objective is to provide flood hazard information, delin-

eated maps and profiles to be used by Larimer County and the Town of

Wellington in implementing their flood plain management program.

In regard to previous studies, the Soil Conservation Service Flood

Plain Information report (May 1970) included small scale maps, sufficient

for agricultural use, but lacking in detail needed to meet today's standards

for urbanizinblareas. The SCS Flood Plain Information Report was prepared

in conjunction with the Watershed Work Plan on Boxelder Creek Watershed.

All but one of the proposed watershed structures have been completed; con-

struction was initiated on the remaining structure in July 1980 and is

scheduled for completion in June, 1982.

The proposed study area is located on stream reach of Boxelder Creek

and Coal Creek that includes the area that was partially studied in detail

in HUD's Flood Insurance Report. However, HUD's Flood Insurance Report was

based on pre-project conditions and no longer reflects the actual flood

potential in the Town of Wellington.

LIMITS OF STUDY AREA
The area of study includes the flood plains of Boxelder Creek and
Coal Creek near the Town of Wellington in Larimer County, Colorado. The
study begins at the north edge of Section 3, T7N, R68W and extends upstream
in a northerly direction to the middle of Section 28, T9N, R68W, 6th PM.
The State of Colorado and Larimer County have contracted with Simons Li &

-r
