"
.

.

.;1
"
1
"

e';

J~

The following notes and comments were recorded at the public meeting. The c9mments were
made by various participants of the meeting and do not necessarily reflect the consensus of the
entire group, unless otherwise noted.

. There are no complaints of groundwater problems north of 6th Street.

. The artesian wells may be contributing to the flooding problems.

. The Vega should not be drained.

. The Rito Seco channel needs to be cleaned up and maintained.

. The town sentiment is generally favorable regarding the proposed sub drain system bounded
by 6th Street, Main Street, 4th Street, and Vega Street. I

. The proposed subdrain system must be separate from the previous system due io engineering
constraints.

. Below 4th Street, mitigation may be accomplished by ditch maintenance and capping of
artesian wells.

. The NRCS is investigating a closed pipeline from the existing subdrain outlet to the Rito
Seco to the east.

. The artesian wells might be connected to the subdrain system instead of being capped.
I
. The Montez Ditch is too deep and dangerous at the lower end. The ditch shouild be partially
filled or replaced with pipe.

. The town would like a pipe from the existing drain outlet to the ditch that fUllS along Vega
Street.

. The county was supposed to have figured out a way to get water from the existing drain outlet
to the Rito Seco or the open ditch. The county never followed through with Itheir assigned
duties.

. The town is interested in draining the extreme southern portion of the town (south of 4th
Street) if possible.

. Maintenance of the open ditch along Vega Street is a big issue with the town.

. The town is convinced that the previous subdrain project has caused increased groundwater
flooding problems in the southern portion of the town. Several citizens cleJly stated their
I
feelings about this issue, and described damage to their homes as a result on the increased
groundwater levels.

2
