CONI

Castle Pines North Metropolitan District
Application for Water Efficiency Grant

Generally, demands have increased as the number of homes has increased. Total
demands in 2002 and 2003 were relatively high, while in 2004 the demand noticeably
decreased. This is likely attributable to customers' response to regional drought
awareness campaigns, the District's efforts to encourage conservation, and an
abnormally wet year in 2004, which reduced the need for irrigation. Demands have
increased since 2004. This may indicate that customers are returning to pre-drought
water use practices, typical of a drought memory effect.

Per Capita Annual Water Demands

Estimates of per capita water demands (gallons per capita per day, or gpcd) are
shown in Figure 2. As shown in the equation below, per capita demands for the
service area were estimated by dividing potable system water demands (i.e., total well
production minus water used by the Ridge Golf Course) by the total population. Total
potable water demands include irrigation of District-owned property and irrigation of
homeowner association (HOA) properties, The total population includes employment
in the school and commercial sector, residents, and an estimated amount of additional
people/traffic using the District's commercial services (restaurants, car washes, etc.).

Total annual well production - (Annual golf course water use)
Per capita demands
Total popu lation x 365 days

250
211 204
.-... 200 195 189
-c 178
0
c. 160
..g! 157
Ul 151
-c 150 140
c:
111
E ..
Ql
0 lIT ,~ 1\
~ 100
'0..
(II
U III
....
Ql
0- 50 {l
IIIl
~ i'NJ
0
1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006

Figure 2
Daily Per Capita Water Demands for District Service Area (excluding Ridge Golf Course water use)

3

C'COCUMENTS ANe SETTINGS',BLACKCA\cESKTOPICPNGRANTlWATER EFFICIENCY GRANT PROGRAM APPLICATtON.OOC
