Section 1

Task Summary

Task 6 - Perform Water Quality Sampling and Compile Performance
Monitoring Information

Throughout the pilot test it will be necessary to collect water quality samples
from the various process streams to determine membrane performance and the
potential for mineral scaling Most of the samples will be analyzed for the
common dissolved ions in groundwater along with silica, nitrates, iron,
manganese, and some trace elements. The field engineer will also measure
conductivity, pH, and turbidity or SDI as part of the daily field checks, and this
will provide the pilot plant team real time information a bout the performance of
the system The water quality data will be compiled to a spreadsheet for trend
analysis.

'IIIl Assumptions: Since the brine streams will be recombined, the quality will be
similar to the retuned original concentrate from the Lochbuie RO treatment
plant, which is being discharged to the wastewater treatment plant. As a
result, it will not be necessary to provide additional and routine samples for
discharge permit compliance monitoring. No toxicity testing of the residual
streams is necessary since the intent is not to discharge the residual liquid in
any surface water. The water is also not being used for potable water, so
sampling for compliance with CDPHE regulations is not required.

'IIIl Deliverable: Monthly electronic copy of the water quality database.

'IIIl Level of Effort: The sampling will be done as part of the daily site visits, and
is expected to average 1 hour per day The results of the samples will be
distributed monthly to the pilot testing team and ECC\!.

Task 7 - Prepare Pilot Testing Report

The equipment configuration, performance data, and water quality sampling for
each of the test scenarios will be summarized in a Pilot Testing Report. The
report will present conclusions regarding the ability of each brine concentration
process to achieve ZLD. The report will describe whether optimal performance
was achieved, and what are the critical factors affecting the operation of the
treatment process A section describing each treatment, and an assessment of the
process and equipment relia bility. The draft report and the results of the pilot
testing program will be presented to the project stakeholders for the propose of
soliciting review comments.

'IIIl Assumptions: The report will be prepared after the trea tment system has
been pushed to the operating limits and the water quality information has
been compiled.

'IIIl Deliverable: 10 copies of the preliminary report will be prepared and
distributed for review and comments. 30 copies of the final report
incorporating the review COlmnents will be distributed to the project
participants

1-4
