I
I
I
I

diameters required for passing the design flow. Also, a cost estimate is included for the
box culvert. a precast system.

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

.......

Figure 4. Formed concrete texture (Image from w\\'\v.incrcte.coml)

6.\ ALTERNATIVE 1- EXISTING CHAl'(NEL SHAPE

This alternative would call for a complete replacement of the channel with steel
reinforced concrete as the lining material. The channel will be replaced to the existing
channel prism shape and dimension as permitted. A general layout drawing of this
alternative could be referenced in Figure A2 in Appendix A. The advantage of this
design is that the channel would not change significantly from its existing appearance and
preserve its historical presence. Excavation and reshaping oCtile channel will be
minimal.

I
I
I
I
I
I

The disadvantage for this alternative is the construction access. As shown by the Corps'
design drawings, rights of way and temporary construction easements were also limited
during the initial construction. Construction casements shown have since been built
upon. As a disadvantage, structure encroachments today would cause the temporary
construction easements to be a challenge. Constructing to the existing right of ways
would pose the biggest and most expensive cost of bypassing the now in Willow Creek.
Construction activities should be scheduled during low flow months taking advantage of
a minimized bypass system. Safety fencing will also he installed to protect people and
animals from falling into the newly replaced channel even though currently there are no
such hardware throughout. Safety cables are included in the appurtenance structures
section of this report.

I Images obtained fmm www.incn;t'::.comdonnt mean that this report supports and promotes thdr product.
Any construction of such equipment will be competitively bid and awarded. For lack of photos
demonstrating this technique to the client. images from this source are used.

NRCS Northern Plains Engineering Team 6
