" 003195 TASK 5.B-ENVIRONME1\'-AL CONSIDERATIONS Purpose This task will identify environmental constraints that are fatal flaws or would signifi- cantly impact adversely the construction or operation of the 10 pOtential reservoir sites identified in Task 2. BIO/WEST will have fielu scientists to accompany engineering staff when they conduct their initial reconnaissance visits. This first field trip is sched- uled for September 1990. Responsibility BIO/WEST will be responsible for this task. Approach The study team will undertake the following activity: 1. For the 10 alternative reservoir sites identified in Task 2, obvious environmental fatal flaws will be identified and those sites will be eliminated from further con- sideration. Elimination will be based on identification of environmental issues that in the judgement of resource specialists would constitute a fatal flaw in the National Environmental Policy Act (NEP A) process if the site were eventually selected. Environmentally sensitive issues may involve the presence of imponant game fisheries or wildlife, endangered species (i.e., bald eagles, peregrine fal- cons, black-footed ferrets, Colorado squawfish, humpback chub, bonytaiI), exten- sive and important wetlands, or heavily used recreational facilities. 2. Coordinate input of the environmental considerations to the screening process (Task S.D). Products 1. Provide a list of alternative reservoir sites that should be eliminated from further consideration with a discussion on the reasons for elimination with environ- mental fatal flaws identified. TASK S.C--COST CONSIDERATIONS Purpose This task will develop preliminary cost estimates for each of the 10 alternative reservoir sites that have passed the screening for yield and geotechnical/environmental fatal flaws (Tasks S.A and S.B).
