Ofj319~

resource engineer. The site visit will focus on identifying geological, geotech-
nical, and technical characteristics and constraints impacting site suitability.
Environmental specialists will also make this field visit (Task S.B). Criteria to
be evaluated during the reconnaissance visits include:

· Topographic suitability

· Storage potential

. General site suitability (geology, shape, slopes, access, location, land-use)

. Reservoir stability and seepage potential

· Dam foundation conditions

. Potential spillway sites and configurations

. Availability of construction materials

. Geologic hazards or constraints (faults, unstable materials, seismicity,
avalanches)

· Accessibility

The site reconnaissance team will record the above information for each site to
document the decisionmaking process. No detailed field investigation work is
planned during this study effon.

2. The results of the field reconnaissance will be reviewed and sites contammg
obvious technical or geotechnical fatal flaws will be eliminated from funher
consideration.

Products

Task products will include:

1. Summary forms of the field reconnaissance for each reservoir site describing
basic geological, geotechnical, and technical conditions will be prepared and
organized into a file of site technical data.

2. A task memorandum will be written describing the field visits presenting the
resuhs of the geOtechnical and technical screening.

19

DENI800P/033.51
