003193

TASK 5--PRELIMINARY SCREENING OF ELEMENTS

The first part of this task will screen up to 10 alternative reservoir sites based on geo-
technical, environmental, and cost (dollars per acre-foot of yield) parameters and assist
in the screening down to 5 reservoir sites as identified in Task 4.C.5. This task will also
include preparation of conceptual layouts of the five selected reservoir sites and three
combination projects identIfied in Task 4.C. This task will involve formulating up to
three alternative project configurations, screening those alternatives, and, ultimately,
producing a recommended plan from those three alternatives. The recommended plan
is analyzed in Task 6.

This task will include the following activities:

· Task 5.A--Technical Considerations
· Task 5.B--Environmental Considerations
· Task 5.C..-Cost Considerations
· Task 5.D--Project Element Screening (Coordinate with 4.C.5)
· Task 5.E-Formulation of Alternative Concepts
· Task 5.F--Conceptual Project Hydrologic Analyses
· Task 5.G--Potential Environmental Impacts of Alternative Concepts
· Task 5.H--Alternative Concept Screening

TASK 5.A.. TECHl'\TJCAL CONSIDERATIONS

Purpose

The purpose of this subtask will be to assess technical considerations of the preliminary
list of 10 alternative reservoir sites identified during Task 2. Emphasis will be placed
on identifying geotechnical and technical issues affecting the feasibility of developing
reservoirs at the identified sites. This activity will run concurrently with the water avail-
ability and yield analysis tasks (Tasks 4.A and 4.B) and lead to the project team coordi-
nating the various discipline inputs in the screening process (Task 5.D).

Responsibility

CH2M HILL will be responsible for this task.

Approach

The study team's approach to this task will be to do the following:

1. Perform a site visit to each of the 10 preliminary sites recommended for funher
study as identified during Task 2. The site visit is scheduled during the 1990 fall
months and will be performed by a geologist, geOtechnical engineer, and a water

18

DEN/BOOP/033.51
