Yampa Basin Study

As outlined in our Plan of Study, we will be submitting monthly progress reports with our
invoices. As this is the first such submittal, I would like to have your feedback on the content and
. format. I plan to add another graphic depicting budget expenditures over time compared to projected
expenditures. I do not have the latter numbers yet, but these were requested at an early TSC meeting to
help the funding agencies in cash flow planning.

Work in August involved Tasks I, 2, and 3. With respect to Task I, we hosted two TSC meetings
at our offices in Boulder. These meetings were summarized in memos previously submitted to you and
to the TSC members.

With respect to Task 2, we started quickly with compiling existing information on basin water
demands. The early emphasis on this task is related to the need to present some preliminary
information at the first PAG meeting scheduled for September 20th. We have assembled a Feat deal of
secondary Information, more than can be presented In any detail at the PAG meeting, and feel that we
have a good grasp of the avallable information. Additional information on water demands wttl be
gathered largely through interviews with in.basln officials.

With respect to Task 3, we have assembled a preliminary list of over 60 reservoir sites in the
basin that have been Identified from secondary information sources. As with the water demands, this
early emphasis Is driven by the desire to present some preliminary information at the September 20th
PAG meeting. While there are still a few documents that we haven't reviewed, most of the remaining
information on potential sites will be obtained via in.b~ln interviews. Screening and development of a
candidate list for field evaluation will then follow.

We have begun a study bibliography, copies of which you have already received. We will
periodically provide you with updates of this document.

From a budget standpoint, I feel that we are on track reasonably well. We will become more
efficient as we get into full swing on the study.

Work in September will probably focus on preparing for and participating In the first PAG
meeting. Related to this will be commencement of in.basin interviews to round out information
gathering "for water demands and reservoir sites.

cc: Bob Norman
Sue Uppendahl

cmb:Jd
F:\SHARE\TOOO\MEM03.CRD09!1l!90 5:04 PM

Hydrosphere 1002 Walnut Suite 200 Boulder, Colorado 80302
443 - -=1 33q

- - - -... - . .-.... . ....~..
