2-07 House Committee Lay Over Unamended

Mr. Yaeger:

Madam Chair:

Rep. Harvey:

Madam Chair:

Mr. Yaeger:

big picture. The fundamental need for this approach is what I'm
trying to wrestle with.

We have some bills coming forward where there are entities on the
front range in your neck of the woods that would be working
together to try to integrate supplies, try to bring water down to
your reservoir and over to Chatfield. That's going to come
forward in the shape of a conservation district I think, or
conservation conservancy.

Tell me if you feel like that's a good step towards getting your
concerns addressed and to moving us forward 'cause we really as a
committee need to be solution-oriented and that's what I'm
looking for. But tell me why you think we need this on top of
those other things.

I will attempt it; I'm sure. The conservation issue in the South
Metro area I think is important to coalesce some of the obvious
differences there. But on the macro scale, I don't see us coming to
any fmitful solutions anywhere in the state until we take this kind
of a step.

I think this opportunity to sit down and come up with a plan from
one district and then go and meet with another district is essential
in the long-term health of the state. Too long we've been
fragmented. It's obvious to everybody in this business that we are
fragmented. I ju st see this as an opportunity to put some of that
behind us.

Representative Harvey.

Thank you, Madam Chair. Madam Chair, you brought up a good
point. Frank, how do you envision the impact if this bill passes,
how do you see the impact of this bill having on local jurisdictions
being able to handle some of their future water problems with
conservation districts or things like that?

Mr. Yaeger.

Representative Harvey, I believe that even when we start reaching
some agreements locally or regionally we're still going to have to
have importation of water and a larger picture to deal with.

I see this roundtable being larger than the South Metro area. As an
example if you split Division One in half. I see it as being larger,
less - well I don't want to say less political, but there are so many

www.escriptionist.com
