<br />002710 <br /> <br />5 <br /> <br />CURRENTS <br /> <br />NEW STUDENT INTERN <br /> <br />Everyone at WWE welcomes David O'Brien to <br />the firm as our newest student intern.. WWE <br />hired David to assist with our computer IT <br />work. He is also pursuing a degree in computer <br />information technology at Front Range <br />Community College and hopes to graduate in <br />the spring of2007. <br /> <br />As a Geographic Information System (GIS) <br />specialist, David assisted us two years ago with <br />floodplain mapping for Los Alamos Laboratory. <br />This time, he will work on network design, <br />help-desk support, and general computer <br />troubleshooting. <br /> <br />SUMMERSET HOMES <br /> <br />Thanks to attorney Laura Tighe of Bayer, Carey <br />& McGee, WWE is analyzing claims of crawl <br />space water by several homeowners north of <br />Arvada. <br /> <br />Kurt Loptien has been running a water table <br />monitoring program in the area for about a year <br />and a half. Kurt reports that water levels are <br />variable and not associated with a nearby canal. <br /> <br />LAFAYETTE OATMEAL 5-K RACE <br /> <br />Ken Wright competed in the Lafayette Oatmeal <br />5-k Race on January 8. His speed suffered in <br />the first half of the race, which was uphill, but <br />he still garnered second place for his age group. <br /> <br />Ken said the best part of the event was the <br />Quaker Oatmeal Fiesta after the race. More <br />than a thousand runners received a full breakfast <br />with all the oatmeal they could eat. <br /> <br />TELLURIDE. SITE ASSESSMENT <br /> <br />We thank Bill de Alva of Lawson Hill Property <br />Owners Company for an assignment in <br />Telluride. Waste Engineering, Inc. is <br />performing a site assessment for the Lawson <br />Hill Subdivision. Our Glenwood Springs office <br />is completing the work. <br /> <br />BIKIS' GEOLOGY CLUB LECTURE <br /> <br />Eric Bikis lectured to the Fort Lewis College <br />Geology Club in January. He described how <br />geologic principles and expertise are applied to <br />WWE and Wright Paleohydrological Institute <br />projects such as Machu Picchu and Mesa Verde; <br />hot springs in Colorado, California, and Puerto <br />Rico; groundwater exploration and evaluation; <br />and geologic hazard assignments. <br /> <br />Eric gave each attendee a 2005 Machu Picchu <br />calendar. In addition, he presented the Geology <br />Department with a copy of Ken Wright's book, <br />Water for the Anasazi. <br /> <br />VINTAGE HOTEL IN WINTER PARK <br /> <br />Intrawest Resons, Inc. hired Waste Engineering <br />to perform a Phase I Environmental Site <br />Assessment (ESA) for the Vintage Hotel in <br />Winter Park. Chad Taylor completed the <br />research, site inspection, and report for the ESA <br />in accordance with American Society of Testing <br />Materials standards. <br /> <br />The Phase I ESA revealed no evidence of <br />recognized environmental conditions. Intrawest <br />was very pleased with the quality of our work <br />and asked WEI to submit proposals for <br />additional work at Winter Park. <br /> <br />WWElWEI <br />
