<br />.... <br /> <br />0027:.;8 <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />CURRENTS <br /> <br />PUERTO RICO CONDEMNATION <br /> <br />Court trustee Edgardo Muiioz and attorney <br />Antonio Amadeo Murga along with our client, <br />Abimael Hernandez, all visited several thermal <br />springs in Colorado and New Mexico during our <br />January blizzard. They also spent a day at our <br />Denver office, where the Puerto Rican <br />contingent outlined the condemnation issues <br />involved in the "taking" of the Coamo Hot <br />Springs by the Commonwealth. <br /> <br />Following a review ofWWE's proposed project <br />approach, Eric Bikis of our Durango office <br />defined a specific scope for a May 15 report <br />submittal deadline. <br /> <br />DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE APPRAISAL <br /> <br />WWE is handling an appraisal job for the U.S. <br />Attorney's Office in Denver. We were selected <br />for the assignment, in part, because of our staff <br />of licensed appraisers who are active <br />professional engineers. <br /> <br />PEGGY FOSTER HONORED <br /> <br />Peggy Foster, mother of Pete Foster of WWE's <br />Durango office, has been named Citizen of the <br />Year in Grand Junction. Her public service <br />activities began in the 1970s, and she is still <br />very active. HigWights are: president of the <br />Powderhorn ~ki Area, chair of the Western <br />Colorado Community Foundation, and board <br />member of Rocky Mountain PBS, Colorado <br />Council of the Arts and Downtown Rotary Club. <br /> <br />Pete is trying to follow in her footsteps. <br />Governor Bill Owens has appointed him to the <br />Southern Ute Indian Tribe and Colorado <br />Environmental Control Commission. <br /> <br />COMP USA FLOODING <br /> <br />Patricia Flood and Ken Wright met with <br />personnel of Comp USA in mid-January to <br />discuss recurring basement flooding in one of <br />their retail stores. Video inspection of plumbing <br />pipes helped shed light on the cause of flooding. <br /> <br />SYNTHETIC TURF GOLF COURSE <br /> <br />Eric Bikis and Shane Sigle of the Durango <br />office assisted Dan Bjorkman of Echo Basin <br />Dude and Guest Ranch, LLC in Mancos submit <br />an updated plan for water augmentation. The <br />augmentation plan includes wells, ponds, and <br />water rights from Weber Reservoir. <br /> <br />WWE also assisted Mr. Bjorkman with well and <br />pond permitting, surveying, wetlands issues, <br />groundwater monitoring, and water resources <br />management. <br /> <br />Mr. Bjorkman plans to construct a synthetic turf <br />golf course in conjunction with the <br />development. The synthetic turf requires no <br />watering. Our Durango office staff tested the <br />turf and report that it is remarkably similar to <br />the real thing. - <br /> <br />SUMMIT COUNTY EVALUATION <br /> <br />Waste Engineering continues site <br />characterization activities for a Summit County <br />business. Our services include evaluation of <br />tetrachloroethene and petroleum hydrocarbon <br />releases. The evaluation is necessary to <br />determine whether these compounds have been <br />released from the site or if the site has been <br />affected by off-site sources.
