Eric Kuhn: PRESENT A TION ON COMPACT DEVELOPMENT POTENTIAL

This presentation was made initially to the Gunnison Basin Roundtable.

- Colorado has not used all of its 3 million acre- feet allotment from the Colorado River
Compact.

500,000 acre feet are still available
- 200.000 that are spoken for by existing projects like Animas LaP1ata
300,000 acre-feet are left

Question from the Yampa Basin: Does all of this surplus water go to the Front Range?

May 18: As part of an Intra-State Compact, should a certain amount of water be reserved
in each basin?

The Lower Basin's right to 7.5 million acre feet (MAF) is unlikely to change. Colorado and
the three other Upper Basin states are likely to get whatever is left after the Lower Basin
states receive their 7.5 MAF.

A 1987 Hydrologic Detelmination from the Bureau of RecIamation came up with the
expected flow in the Colorado River and determined that Colorado has 500,000 acre-feet
left. All seven states objected to it, but that's the consensus of what is left for Colorado.

L\CWCB Imaging\Caleb\Minutes\Colorado\2006\Colorado Feb 27 06 minutes. doc

2
