N <br />EGOTIATIONS <br /> <br />Colorado has been involved in negotiations over the Seven Basin States Agreem ent <br />that , if adopted by the Secretary of the Interior, will govern shortages on the Colorado River. <br />The Colorado River Subunit has conducted legal analyses on multiple issues that have arisen <br />in these negotiations. <br /> <br />L P <br />ITIGATION REPARATION <br /> <br />One of the co ncerns underlying the creation of the Colorado River Subunit is the <br />possibility that Colorado may become involved in interstate litigation over the Colorado <br />Riv er Compact. T he Colorado River Subunit has been charged with preparing Colorado for <br />future Col o rado River Compact litigation. T he Subunit has begun to research legal issues <br />that may arise in litigation and has begun to catalogue the vast number of documents that <br />might be relevant to or privileged in litigation . <br /> <br />I A I <br />NTRASTATE DMINISTRATION SSUES <br /> <br />T he Colorado River Subunit assist s the State Engineer in addressing legal questions <br />that may arise if the State Engineer is forced to curtail Colorado water use in order to make <br />water available to comply with the Colorado River Compact and the Upper Colorad o River <br />Basin Compact . <br /> <br /> 2 <br />
