Floodplains
There are no mapped floodplains in the proposed project area. Goodman Canyon and
minor tributaries to the canyon have carried floodwaters during the summer monsoon
season. Existing drainages in the county right of way have been designed to accommodate
100-year floods.

Monsoonal flows that may occur during constmction may transport sediments from the
proposed project area into downstream floodplains. Open trenches for pipeline installation
may also carry flood waters if not properly mitigated. Stmcturalmitigation includes the
use of silt fences and water bars to slow mnoff and redirect flow to reduce erosion in the
proposed proj ect area.

Wetlands
There are no wetlands within the proposed project area. Most wetlands in the agricultural
areas of Montezuma County are due to irrigation of fields and the ditches and canals that
support the irrigation. There is no irrigation water in the proposed project area, so there
are no wetlands that are supported by irrigation.

Wetlands downstream of the proj ect area may be impacted by sediment transport from
the proposed project area during constmction. To mitigate this impact, structural
measures will be utilized to reduce mnoff and erosion. These measures include the use of
silt fences and water bars. Standard industry Best Management Practices (BMPs) will be
applied as a mitigation practice. Constmction may also be halted during heavy rains
where mnoff could impact downstream wetlands.

Cultural Resources
The Goodman Point area is rich with cultural resources. It is surrounded by such formally
classified lands as the Hovenweep National Monument and the Canyons of the Ancients
National Monument, both of which are renowned for their cultural resources. A number of
archaeological sites are know to be either within, or adjacent to, the proposed waterline
route. For this reason a Class III survey was conducted in the proposed project area by
Woods Canyon Archaeological Consultants. The document, Cultural Resource Inventory
of Goodman Point Water Association's Domestic Water Delivery Proiect, details the
cultural resources that are in the area and proposed mitigation measures.

The cultural resources inventory found that the proposed waterline alignment has been
designed to avoid significant cultural resource sites; however there are 10 sites that are
located within the proposed proj ect area. It is recommended that three of the 10 sites be
monitored during constmction and that the final alignment be reviewed by Woods
Canyon prior to constmction to ensure that the constmction has no effect on significant
cultural resource sites.

Biological Resources
The proposed project area supports a variety of native and non-native plants and animals.
There are also several species of wildlife, fish, and vegetation that are designated as

Goodman Point Water Association - Preliminaty Engineering RepOli

3
