Part I - General

The purpose for the Preliminary Engineering Report is to establish the basic engineering
standards and design criteria for the proposed water line, water storage tank, and booster
station. This includes information on the existing water supply, the need for the project,
alternatives for the pipeline alignment, and recommendations for the project. The format
of the report follows the Rural Utilities Services (RUS) Bulletin 1780-2 for Water
Facilities.

Location
Goodman Point Water Association is located in Montezuma County in southwest Colorado
west of Cortez. Residents live on 35 acre and larger parcels in a typical rural setting with a
mix of agricultural and residential uses.

Existing Water System
The Goodman Point area has been domestically settled since the late 1800s. Due to the
lack of reliable, nearby water sources, water was brought to the area through the use of
water tenders pulled by mules and horses. A century later, residents still must haul their
water back to their residences despite having a large water service provider, Montezuma
Water Company (MWC), in the area. Residents purchase water in bulk from the City of
Cortez, but do not enjoy reliable service through a water distribution system at their
homes.

MWC has two existing water main lines that are located within 10 miles of Goodman
Point that are in acceptable condition to be extended to service the Goodman Point area.
MWC provides treated surface water through an extensive network of water mains
stretching over 400 miles. MWC will have all operational and maintenance
responsibilities for any new water distribution mains tied into their existing system.

Goodman Point Water Association - Preliminaty Engineering RepOli

1
