The accompanying map indicates the location and plan
of the reservoir.

2) Physical Facts

The dam will be constructed of roller compacted concrete
which is basically a low :grade concrete providing the gravity
mass of the structure. The upstream and downstream surfaces
of the dam are faced with conventional concrete. The dam will
be 145 ft. high.
The length of the crest across the narrow canyon is 360 ft.
The reservoir at spillway elevation of 7200 ft. will create a
lake 2.9 miles long with a surface area of 780 acres. Its
total capacity at this elevation is 33,275 acre feet which has
been allocated. as follows:

18,275 af as a permanent recreation pool
9,000 af for industrial use (power generation)
2,000 af for municipalities in the Yampa Valley
4,000 af for agricultural irrigation
33,275 af

3) Purposes and Needs

The project was conceived in 1983 by the District when it
was realized that following the 1977 drought agriculture, muni-
cipalities and industry in the valley could be short of a re-
liable supply of water.

In this region the heavy spring runoff from the snow melt
ends in mid-July. Flows in the streams drop drastically and
can no longer provide the water demands of our growing com-
munities. Stagecoach will provide water releases during the
dry months of August, September and October to supplement the
flows, thereby assuring a reliable supply. In addition, a 800 kw
hydroelectric plant will generate enough electricity to furnish
the towns of Oak Creek and Phippsburg.

Phnnc: (303) 879.21124

Stf"'OIlllhoilt SprillClc;, Colorado A0488 0339
