<br />( <br />Upper Yampa Water Conservancy District <br /> <br />/ <br /> <br /> <br />For Release: <br /> <br />August 1, 1989 <br /> <br />Contact: <br /> <br />John Fetcher <br />(303) 879-2424 <br /> <br />STAGECOACH DAM TO BE DEDICATED AUGUST 12 BY <br />UPPER YAMPA WATER CONSERVANCY DISTRICT <br /> <br />Six years of work will come to fruition on Saturday 12 August <br />1989, as the Upper Yampa Water Conservancy District dedicates <br />Stagecoach Dam and Reservoir. The dedication ceremony will be <br />held at the dam at 11:00 am. A lunch provided by the District at <br />the Stagecoach State Recreation Area Camper Services Building will <br />follow. Both.events are open to the public. <br /> <br />Invited speakers include: Representative Ben Nighthorse Campbell, <br />Acting Commissioner of the Bureau of Reclamation Joe Hall, former <br />Colorado Governors John Love and John Vanderhoof, State Senator <br />Da ve Wa t ten berg, Sta te Represen ta ti ve Dan Wi lliams, Direc tor of <br />Colorado Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation Ron Holliday, <br />President of the Upper Yampa Water Conservancy District Jim Funk <br />and District Secretary/Manager John Fetcher. Master of Ceremonies <br />will be Colorado Water Conservation Board Executive Director Bill- <br />McDonald. <br /> <br />The dam, located 17 miles south of Steamboat Springs, Colorado on <br />the Yampa River, was developed by the Upper Yampa Water <br />Conservancy District with assistance from the State of Colorado <br />and the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation, through the agency's Small <br />Reclamation Project Loan and Grant program, loaned the District $7 <br />million. The District provided $2.5 million. Total cost of the <br />project is $17.9 million. Non-Federal funding represented over <br />60% of the total project costs. The Colorado Water Resources and <br />Power Deve lopmen t Authori t y provided interim financing to permi t <br />construction before the Federal funding was in place. <br /> <br />Stagecoach Dam is a roller compacted concrete structure standing <br />145 feet high. Following a winter of preparation, construction on <br />the dam actually started 7 June 1988 and 38 days later on 15 July <br />the structure was completed. Stagecoach Dam creates a reservoir <br />totaling 33,275 acre feet. Of that, 18,275 acre feet is a <br />permanent recreation pool, 9,000 acre feet is available for power <br />generation, 2,000 acre feet is provided for municipal water in the <br />Yampa Valley, and 4,000 acre feet is allocated for agricultural <br />use.
