During the next two years,
these wells will be used to meet the residential, commercial, and
industrial water demands on the City's distribution system. While some
growth will be accommodated by these two new wells, these wells are not
being developed strictly to support growth. As explained in the Draft
Feasibility Study, the aquifer production in the Fort Lupton has
deceased steadily over the past few years due to prolonged drought and
subsequent lack of aquifer recharge, and additional well capacity is
required to meet the demands of the existing customer base.

The City wants to stress that these two wells will not be "throwaway"
wells to be used for only a 2-year interim period and then forgotten.
The City is taking along-term planning view on this project and intends
to use these wells for the fo llCmii19 uses during tho:: next 30 p"lu$ years:

~ Fort Lupton is pursuing a golf course and it will take one
municipal water well just to irrigate this project. Well water
may be needed for this project as soon as 1996.

~ The Thermo cogeneration plant owners are attempting to get other
industries to locate in the Thermo industrial park in Fort Lupton.
As part of the power cogeneration process, a significant amount of
waste heat is generated and represents a resource that can be sold
to certain industries as part of their manufacturing process. The
City has been informed that the industries that will potentially
locate in the Thermo industrial park could require large amounts
of water. The City plans on providing well water to meet these
