1

1

1

1

..

I

I

EXPECTED GOALS FOR WATER CONSERVATION:

I

The Town is rising up to the water challenge by proactively addressing the issue of managing
our water resources and costs. It is the intent of the Town to use its resources in the most
efficient manner before acquiring water from other sources. In an effort to set a course to
ensure water for our future, the Town is developing the Water Resources Strategic Master
Plan (WRSMP). The WRSMP seeks to address the Town's water resources needs by
identifying programs and projects that extend the life of the groundwater aquifers. Ninety-six
percent of the Town's water comes from these aquifers. The plan includes the following
elements: conservation, use and reuse of all existing water resources available to the Town,
new imported renewable water resources, and continued, but more limited, reliance on
groundwater.

I

I

1

I

The Town's current conservation goal is to lower the 5-year average of 165* gallons per
person per day to 135 gallons per person per day. This is not only a goal, but also a milestone
the Town must achieve in order to ensure its citizens have an adequate water supply.
Conservation is key as it is achieved through proper management of our most valuable
resource.

I

ADHERENCE TO THE WATER CONSERVATION PLAN DEVELOPMENT GUIDANCE DOCUMENT:

1

It is the intent of the Town of Castle Rock Utilities Department to update the Water
Conservation Plan to meet all state requirements specified in CRS 37-60-126. This plan
includes the following requirements:

I

I

Consideration of, at minimum, nine water-saving measures and programs;
· Defining the role of Water Conservation Plans in water supply planning for the Town;
The steps the Town used to develop, and will use to implement, monitor, review, and
revise, its Water Conservation Plan;
The time period not-to-exceed seven years, after which the Town of Castle Rock will
review and update its adopted plan as well as internal annual reviews; and
· Either as a percentage or in acre-foot increments, an estimate of the amount of water that
has been saved through a previously implemented conservation plan and an estimate of the
amount of water that will be saved through conservation when the plan is implemented.
See Appendix D for the Town of Castle Rock Water Conservation Master Plan Outline.

I

I

I
I

*The Town is in the process of refining the 2004 water use numbers production and consumption usage profile.

I

CWCS Water Conservation Planning Grant Program

SA VING WA TER THROUGH EoveA nON, INCENTlVE5, AND APPL/CA nON OF BES r MANAGEMENT PRA C TlCES
