This will engage the
community in the water conservation program.

4. Water reuse systems, both potable and non-potable

The City is developing a plan to reuse water that is flushed during routine maintenance activities
such as, groundvllater pump tests or hydrant flushes. This water will be captured in tanks and
used in non-potable applications, i.e., irrigation, washing of City equipment or dust abatement.

Federal Heights has a Pretreatment Agreement with the Metro Wastewater Reclamation District
for the treatment of its sanitary sewer. The city does not plan to develop a reuse system, since
there is not enough area in the City to support a reuse treatment facility.

5. Distribution s;ystem leak repair

The Public Works Department has a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to address suspected
leaks in the potable water distribution system. The Public Works Department conducts leak
detection when conditions indicate possible excessive water use. The City has not performed a
system-wide water audit. Areas of pipe with numerous breaks are evaluated and budgeted for
replacement on an annual basis. An SOP is in place to address emergency breaks in the
distribution system.

6. Dissemination of information regarding water use efficiency measures, including public
education, water use audits and water saving demos

The City recognizes public education and outreach as a strong tool in the water conservation
program. Informing and educating residents, water customers and staff will make a difference in
cultivating a water efficiency use ethic in the community. The City uses direct mail, quarterly

5
