03-01-1993 04:24PM FROM SOLAR TECHNOLOGY INST.

TO

9205198

P.01

# .
,. , ;.

.

e

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

There will be a wide variety of groups involved in the
project. Pi~kin County will serve as the lead governmental
entity in the grant. The Roaring For~ For~ regularly
scheduled meetings will have status reports of the effort and
will help promote the project. Other groups that will lend
assistance during 1993 include the Town of Carbondale
Environmental Board that has endorsed this grant application
and will help with implementation. Further, the City of
Aspen/Pitkin County Energy Committee has also endorsed the
project and will help. The Roaring Fork Energy Center has
been a non-profit for over 18 years working in the valley on
programs to conserve natural resources. The RFBC will be
involved from the start to finish of this project. w. will
enlist the support from local volunteers like local Rotary
Clubs and interested students from the public high schools
and Colorado Mountain College. As the project develops, we
will request additional help from other local groups and
individuals. '

ORIGINATION OF THE IDEA FOR THIS PROJECT

The Roaring Fork Valley has a long his~ory of being on the
cutting edge of innovation in environmental issues. Both
elected officials and their 8~affs work hard to preserve the
quality of life we enjoy and conserve the natural resources
that help support our local economy. This i~ why the Town of
Carbondale and City of Glenwood Springs implemented the 1992
water conservation program. Based on the success of this
effort, it was decided to expand the program to include all
residents in the Roaring Fork Forum service area.

HONITORI~G METHODS

The Roaring Pork Forum members have on reeord the monthly
water uaeage of each household. We will only select homes
that have meters so that we can monitor future consumption
patterns. Each participant will sign a consent form allowing
us to lOOk at their water and utility hills. We will then be
able to track usage and savings, both water and financial,
before and after the project. For the participants, this
project will be most relevant as they compar~ their before
and af~er 5tat~ments. Financially, their 8avi~g. wi11 be
greaL motivators to participate in the project and convince
other residents to do the same.

TOTAL P.01
