Submitted to: State Office of Water Conservation
Submitted by: Jean Loose and Charles Johnson

. 60 % efficiency of boiler or water heater divided by .60 = 966
CCF per month x $.45/CCF=$434.7 x 12 months=$5216.40
savings in energy related to saved water.. The average
cost of water for the agency is $1. 68848 per 1000 gallons.
$1.69 (rounded figure) X the 3622. 5 gallons of water that
could be saved daily = $6.12 savings per day or
$183.60/month and $2203.20 per year.

/

SUMMARY: The amount of water saved is 3622.5 gallons per
day, 1,304, 100 gallons per year.

Dollar savings in water is $2203.20 per year.

Dollar savings in energy is $5216.40 per year.

Thus, the total cost savings would be $7419.60 per year. The
December 1992 water bill for GJRC was $2191.96. The savings
using infrared faucets would be the equivalent of 3.4 months of
the agency's water bills.

According to our study of frequency of use of every
faucet in the agency, we would like to install 100 infrared
automatic faucets The savings in water and dollars could be as
much as THREE TIMES the above figures for several reasons:

1. Data was obtained only on the amount of water used for hand
washing by direct care staff. There are many other uses for
lavatories by direct care staff and clients, some of which require
more water and time than hand washing. Hand washing was
used because it was predictable and precise.

2. Calculations for the amount of water used for handwashing
did not include 93 other staff who have daily contact with clients
and wash hands before and after each contact with clients.

3. The flow rate per gallon will be less with infrared faucets than
the 2 1/2-3 GPM the current faucets use.

Page 5
