Ridgway Reservoir

Ridgway Reservoir, the principal storage feature of the project,
would be formed by a dam on the Uncompahgre River approximately 6 miles
north of Ridgway and about a mile south of the stream I s junction 'Wi. th
Cow Creek. The reservoir would store surplus flows of the Uncompahgre
River and surplus flows of Cow Creek that would be conveyed through the
Cow Creek Feeder Canal. The reservoir would extend south up the Uncom-
pahgre River Canyon, with a branch along the side drainage of Alkali
Creek and a smaller branch along the side drainage of Dallas Creek. A
section of U.S. Highway 550 which passes through the reservoir basin
would be relocated to the east side of the reservoir with the relocated
section constructed to higher standards than the existing road. Plans
and estimates are based on the assumption that a line of the Denver and
Rio Grande Railroad between Montrose and Ridgway which runs through the
reservoir basin would be abandoned.

Aerial view of Ridgway Reservoir Basin with the potential
dam and high water line indicated.
