......
.,

.

.

:.'.1
<.s<
.,..,,,
(..)
c...~

3.0 SUBTEAM: COAL MARKET/COAL SUPPLY (McKeever)
3.1 SEPTEMBER EVENTS

Met with representatives of the China Butte Coal Company.
They expressed keen interest in AQUATRAIN as a potential
transport system for their coal reserves east of Womsetter,
Wyoming.

Briefed Wyoming coal, soda ash, and CO2 producers in Casper
to identify their interests in AQUATRAIN participation.
They also met with environmental interests and several media
representat i ves.

A briefing was requested to be conducted in Denver by repre-
sentatives of the Los Angeles and Long Beach Port Authorities.
Also attending were representatives of Envirosphere Consultants,
and Rio Grande Industries. Briefing included AQUATRAIN
update and discussion of the Port Authorities' plans for
shipping coal to the Pacific Rim. Envirosphere's analysis
revealing that delivering coal by rail to the ports is unacceptable
unless expensive new highway overpasses are built has led
the Port Authorities to consider pipeline alternatives.
Black Mesa and AQUATRAIN technologies are being looked at.

3.2 ANTICIPATED OCTOBER EVENTS

McKeever to attend Coal Marketing Conference in Denver,
October 11-12.

Clinton to attend Colorado Energy Conference in Grand Junction,
Colorado on October 14.

4.0 SUBTEAM: FINANCIAL/ECONOMIC (McKeever)
4.1 SEPTEM8ER EVENTS

Meetings were held with Ernst and Whinney to discuss the
financial analysis of AQUATRAIN cost figures. Ernst and
Whinney will complete their analysis for inclusion in the
Preliminary Report.

5.0 SUBTEAM: TECHNICAL/ENGINEERING (Legal)
5.1 SEPTEMBER EVENTS

Riley Ridge, Wyoming, appears to be a source of large, favorably
located CO2 reserves for AQUATRAIN. Sufficient CO2 reserves
exist to move up to 100 million tons per year of coal for
35 years. Raw gas at Riley Ridge contains CO2 which ranges
from 60-69 percent of the raw gas. Holders of the mineral
reserves cannot economically develop the natural gas (methane)

2
