This study will provide a basis for coordinating the further
planning for development and use of the water and related land resources.
That portion of the study relating to the Yampa River Basin ~n Colorado is
scheduled for the fiscal years 1964 and 1965.

The Yampa River enters the Green River, principal tributary of the Upper
Colorado River, at a location known as "Pat's Hole", near the Colorado.
Utah State boundary. It drains that part of the Colorado River Basin west
of the Continental Divide and generally along the Colorado-Wyoming State line.
The Watershed of the Yampa River lies adjacent to and north of that of' the
White River in Colorado, and includes as its principal tributary the Little
Snake River. Hereafter in this Plan of Work, this area will be referred to
as the Yampa River Basin. For the purposes of this study, Vermillion Creek
and adjacent and intervening areas directly tributary to the Green River
would also be included. The total drainage area is approximately 9000
square miles, of which about 2000 square miles comprise that part of the
drainage basin located in the State of Wyoming. 1/

I
!
,.
,:'
1',
i
"-
ii-
,.
t"
}"
L
h

!
f'
t~
r
i
I'.

This is the sixth study in the series being carried out by the Board and
the fourth made with USDA cooperation. Surveys on the Gunnison, Upper
Colorado, and White River basins preceded this study or are currently
being made.

1/ The part of the drainage basin in Wyoming would receive only limited
attention, and would be considered in this survey only to the extent
necessary to make possible evaluations on a complete river basin basis
with integrated consideration of all existing and proposed major pro-
jects which would be affected by any development within the basin.
Published inforlljation and tabulations and compilations will be pre.
,pared only for the drainage basin in Colorado

1

iL ,~..~...;:.L ,i':c, ,~
