<br /> <br />,t' "_ <br /> <br />is made up of sand dunes held in place by a cover of native <br /> <br /> <br />prairie grasses. <br /> <br /> <br />The western part of the basin is largely undissected High <br /> <br /> <br />Plains or tables divided by major stream valleys. <br /> <br />The basin slopes from a high point of 5,424 feet above <br /> <br />mean sea level in the southwestern corner to a low point of about <br /> <br />950 feet at the confluence of the Platte and Missouri Rivers. <br /> <br />Figure 2-3 shows points of equal elevation in the basin. Most <br /> <br />streams draining the basin run toward the east and southeast and <br /> <br />their slopes are fairly steep.
