<br />OO~t~8 <br /> <br />~igure 2-2 is a relief map of Nebraska showing the natural <br />topographic regions. The dominant feature in the eastern part of <br />the basin is the Rolling Hills. These hills are thick deposits <br />of wind blown silt and clay, called loess, which rest on undulating <br />glacial deposits. <br /> <br />Figure 2-2 <br />TOPOGRAPHIC REGIONS OF NEBRASKA <br /> <br /> <br />West of the Rolling Hills area the layer of loess was <br />deposited on a flatter surface to form a vast level plain. Part <br />of this flat plain still remains in the central basin, but the <br />flat topography of some sections has been eroded by runoff to <br />form hills and valleys. These sections are shown as Dissected <br />Plains. <br />North and west of the Dissected Plains are the Sandhills, a <br />landform topographically unique in the United States.
