.

.

Q

..> January 3: Attended a luncheon meeting in Denver in honor of Mr. Harold Samuels,
Administrator, Small Business Administration. r attended this meeting in my
capacity as Chairman of the Colorado Advisory Council for the SBA, and this meet-
ing did afford me the opportunity to discuss the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project with Mr.
Samuels, and to receive reports from him relative to the "Washington scene" during
the transition period between President Lyndon B. Johnson, and President-Elect
Richard Nixon.

w
~
N
~

January 6: Attended ~ meeting of the Executive Committee of the Southeastern Colo-
rado Water Conservancy District in the morning, during which time the members
carefully reviewed preliminary material which has been received from potential cus-
tomers under the Inventory Questionnaire Program. The Executive Committee de-
veloped three recommendations which will be presented to the Board of Directors at
their next regular meeting.

That afternoon r attended a meeting of the River Administration and Education Com-
mittee, during which time Officials from the Booth Orchard Grove Ditch Company and
the Pueblo Board of Water Works described the negotiations which are now being
carried on relative to the sale of some of the Booth Orch.~rd Grove senior water to
the Pueblo Board of Water Works. The members of the :rtiver Administration and
Education Committee asked some very enlightening questions, and were most compli-
mentary of the manner in which the negotiations are being carried on, and the interest
of all parties.

January 7: Attended a regular meeting of the Executive Committee of the Southern
Colorado Economic i)evelopment District, of which r am a member, and during the
course of the meeting presented reasons why the Southeastern Colorado Water Con-
servancy District and Mr. Floyd Dominy, Commissioner, Bureau of Reclamation,
feel it appropriate that the Southern Colorado Economic Development District consider
ways to fund all or part of the Municipal-Domestic Pipeline between Pueblo and Lamar.
We were fortunate that Mr. Richard Morrison, Director, Economic Development Ad-
ministration, Southwest Area, from Austin, Texas, was present at this meeting, and
it afforded me an opportunity to describe the Pipeline Project to Mr. Morrison, and to
present specific material to him. Mr. Morrison will play an important role should the
Southern Colorado Economic Development District Board of Directors approve the
application for the Pipeline Project.

January 8: Met with Mr. Morrison, and Officials from the Southern Colorado Econ-
omic Development District to review in greater detail the proposal presented at the
Executive Committee of the Southern Colorado Economic Development District.

That evening r addressed the Annual Meeting of the St. Charles Mesa Water Association
and was afforded the opportunity to discuss formally and informally the Fryingpan-
Arkansas Project, the many programs which the Southeastern Colorado Water Conser-
vancy District is working on, and other matters of mutual interest. An excellent crowd
was in attendance, and r enjoyed having the opportunity to visit with these water users,
and to discuss their future requirements as it relates to the Valley Pipeline.

-2-
