This was the thiru largest winter gain since the first year of <br />operation unJa the Cumpact. The gates remained closed through April <br />~, 1962, at which time thcre w('rc 35.970 ;Jere feet (1f water in storagc. <br /> <br />The first release of stored water was made beginning at 8 :00 ::1.111, <br />un April 9, 1962, to meet demands of both Colorado and Kansas, <br />Releases wcre continued for both st.ltes until the reservoir was cleclared <br />empty at noon on May I, 1962. <br /> <br />I. <br /> <br />River flow was passed through the reservoir until 7 :45 a.m. on <br />May 18, 1962, when the gates were closed to store runoff from heavy. <br />rains that occurred on May 16 and 17, 1962. The water accumulated <br />in storage rCi'l.ched a maximum of 4,529 acre fcet at midnight on MJY <br />2.0, 1962. Reteasc-s were begun at 8:30 (l,m. on May 19, 1962, upon <br />demand by Colorado and continued until the reservoir was de-elared <br />empty" 5 :00 p,m. on 1-by ) 1. 1901, <br /> <br />River flow again was passed through the reservoir until 9: 15 a.m. <br />on July 25, 1962, when the gates Wf:re adjusted to limit outflow to the <br />amount of Colorado demands ;md to store the remainder of runoff from <br />Hood flows. Releasrs frnm the reservoir were increased at 2:15 p.m. on <br />July 25, 1962. to meet Kansfl.s dcm;mds. The Kansas demand was can' <br />..::dled at 4;15 p.m. on August I, 1962, reinstateu. at 10:15 a.m. (1n <br />August 6, 1962, and continued until the reservoir was cleclareu empty <br />,It 2 :00 a..m. on August II, 1962.
