<br />I' <br /> <br />lO'~') <br />(. ,J <br /> <br />PREVIOUS REPORTS AND LEGISLATION <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />The Narrows Dam was originally authorized as a Unit of the comprehen- <br />sive Missouri River Basin Project by the Flood Control Acts of 1944, <br />1946, and 1950. A definite plan report was prepared in 1951. Public <br />Law 88-442, approved August 14, 1964, required that all units of the <br />Missouri River Basin Project on which construction had not been <br />initiated be thereafter authorized by Act of Congress. Accordingly, <br />studies were reoriented toward preparation of a feasibility report, <br />which was published in January 1967. In September 1967, the Secretary <br />of the lnterior approved and adopted this report. <br /> <br />The Secretary of lnterior's report was transmitted to Congress in May <br />1968 and printed as House Document No. 320, 90th Congress, 2d Session. <br />A reevaluation statement which was prepared in May 1969 and revised <br />in November 1969, accompanied and was made a part of the Department's <br />favorable reports on the authorizing bills.. That statement, a copy <br />of which is appended, contains the following pertinent documents: <br /> <br />Statement by Hon. John A. Love, Governor, State of Colorado, <br />dated November 25, 1968, regarding the addition of a fish <br />hatchery <br /> <br />Letter from Colorado Water Conservation Board dated February 2, <br />1968, regarding recreation and fish and wildlife cost sharing <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />Memorandum Report, Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife, <br />dated October 9, 1969, revising fish and wildlife costs and <br />benefits <br /> <br />Memorandum Report, National Park Service, dated March 20, 1969, <br />reevaluating recreation costs and benefits <br /> <br />Letter Report, Corps of Engineers, dated April 10, 1969, <br />updating flood control benefits <br /> <br />Following hearings, the Narrows Unit was authorized for construction <br />and operation by the Congress by its Act of August 28, 1970 (Public <br />Law 91-389). <br /> <br />4 <br />
