SUMMARY (Continued)

under construction, will serve as a regulating reservoir at the beginning
of the Strawberry Aqueduct to provide temporary storage of high spring
flows which would otherwise be lost for diversion to the aqueduct and
storage in Strawberry Reservoir. The completed Currant Creek Reservoir
will divert water from Currant Creek and five of its smaller tributaries
into the aqueduct. When completed, the system will also provide flood
control, recreation facilities, and fish and wildlife measures.

Ute Indian Tribal Development

Bottle Hollow Reservoir has been constructed to compensate the Ute
Indian Tribe for economic losses associated with stream fishing on the
portion of Rock Creek located on the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation.
With a surface area of 420 acres, this reservoir provides fishing oppor-
tunities, wildlife habitat, and a basis for recreation-oriented enter-
prises to provide additional employment and income for members of the
tribe. In addition, several areas on Indian lands along the Duchesne
River between Bridgeland and Ouray will be developed as waterfowl manage-
ment areas to mitigate waterfowl losses resulting from operation of the
Bonneville Unit in the Uinta Basin.

Municipal and Industrial System

The Municipal and Industrial System will provide municipal and
industrial water to Salt Lake, Utah, and Wasatch Counties and supple-
mental irrigation water to Wasatch County. The system will also provide
flood control, recreation, and fish and wildlife measures. Regulatory
storage will be provided by Jordanelle Reservoir, which will be located
on the Provo River about 6 miles north of Heber City. The system wi~l
develop project water by exchanging already appropriated Provo River
water for Bonneville Unit water in Utah Lake and by storing unappropri-
ated high flows of the Provo River. Project water in Utah Lake will
consist of water purchased from existing Utah Lake water rights, Straw-
berry Reservoir releases, water from project return flows, and high
flows entering the lake.

Water for municipal and industrial use will be released from Jor-
danelle Reservoir into the Provo River and will flow downstream (includ-
ing passage through Deer Creek Reservoir) for about 20 miles to the ex-
isting Olmsted Diversion Dam. From the diversion dam, the water will be
conveyed to areas of use by project aqueducts. The Jordan Aqueduct will
convey water to the Salt Lake County area, and the Alpine Aqueduct will
serve the communities in north Utah County. Some project water will be
released from Jordanelle Reservoir and diverted into existing canals for
municipal use and for irrigation of project lands in Heber Valley.
Water will also be diverted into existing canals upstream from the res-
ervoir for irrigation in the Francis area, and downstream users will be
compensated with releases from Jordanelle Reservoir.

S-2
