The need for water supply
sources in the area requires the investigation be carried out as
an independent study. The investigation was scheduled for com-
pletion in FY 1974; however, an apparent need for irrigation water
has developed which requires further investigation. An interim
report on M & I requirements was prepared in FY 1975, and addi-
tional funds have been allocated to continue the program. Inves-
tigation now scheduled for completion in FY 1977.

Corps of Engineers:

1. Red River and tributaries above Denison Dam (See Map 2)
A survey-scope study to investigate the problems and needs of the
basin and determine the economic feasibility for development of
the area's water and related resources. The Plan of Survey has
been completed with initial public hearings held in Childress,
Texas, and Lawton, Oklahoma on November 5, and December 3, 1969.
Preliminary studies of a multiple purpose lake on Pease River to
provide for irrigation, flood control, recreation, snd fish and
wildlife was completed in FY 1973 and found to be not economically
feasible.

2. Denison Dam (Lake Texoma) (See Map 1) A survey-scope
study to determine whether it would be advisable to modify the
existing Denison Dam (Lake Texoma) project to include recreation,
irrigation, water quality control, municipal and industrial water
supply and other purposes, in addition to the authorized purposes
for which it is being operated and maintained. A public hearing
was held in June 1966. Preliminary studies and coordination
activities are essentially complete. Congressional authorization
for the city of Sherman to construct a water supply dam on Big
Mineral Arm and Lake Texoma was granted in June 1970. A public
hearing was held in March 1973 to review the study results with
those interested in the project. The report is scheduled for
completion in FY 1976.

Soil Conservation Service:

Washita River Authorized Watershed (not shown on map) Pur-
pose is to provide watershed protection and flood prevention for
a drainage area of 792,410 acres or 1,238 square miles by flood-
water retarding structures and channel improvement.
