Purpose is to provide water- <br />shed protection and flood prevention for a drainage area of l25,440 <br />acres or 196 square miles by floodwater retarding structures, <br />multiple-purpose structures and land treatment. Authorized for <br />planning 7-22-69 with planning 60 percent complete. Completion <br />of planning deferred pending local decision concerning water <br />rights. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Soil Conservation Service - Coordinated River Basin Surveys <br />and Investigations: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Red River Basin above Denison Dam - Oklahoma and Texas. The <br />Red River Basin above Denison Dam comprises about 39,700 square <br />miles and includes all the area in New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas <br />drained by the Red River and its tributaries above Denison Dam. <br />The cooperative river basin survey will be conducted at a Level B <br />intensity of planning by the USDA in cooperation with the Texas <br />Water Development Board, Texas State Soil and Water Conservation <br />Board, Texas Water Rights Commission, Texas Interagency Council <br />on Natural Resources and the Environment, the Oklahoma State Soil <br />Conservation Board, and Oklahoma Water Resources Board. The study <br />will be conducted by the U.S.D.A. under authority of P. L. 566, <br />as amended, with a joint effort of above State organizations and <br />the U. S. Soil Conservation Service, U. S. Forest Service, snd the <br />Economic Research Service. This study was initiated in FY 1973. <br />The plan of work has been completed.
