The objective of this <br />study is to determine the general availability and quality of <br />groundwater in the county; determine the principal aquifers, <br />their areal extent, and ereas of recharge and discharge; relate <br />groundwater to the flow of the Canadian River and Ute Creek; <br />and assist communities in locating additional water supplies. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />7. Groundwater hydrology of the Northern High Plains of <br />New Mexico, a cooperative study by the U. S. Geological Survey <br />and the New Mexico State Engineer Office. The objective of this <br />study is to assess the groundwater resources of the Northern <br />High Plains in New Mexico and determine the potential for <br />irrigation development. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />8. River Basin Analysis: Cimarron River Upstream from <br />Springer. A study by the U. S. Geological Survey. This study <br />is designed to develop a model or models to aid in better river- <br />basin management. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />9. On public lands administered by the U. S. Bureau of <br />Land Management there is an ongoing watershed program which <br />includes prevention of o~ergrazing, conservation practices to <br />prevent wind and water erosion, construction of small dams for <br />flood control and silt retention, development of livestock and <br />wildlife water, etc. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />10. Raton Water Supply Project is a project investigation <br />by the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation. This study will provide an <br />appraisal of the water resources of the Raton area for municipal <br />and industrial water supply for the City of Raton. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />11. Tucumcari Project is a feasibility level investigation <br />by the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation to evaluate modifying Conchas <br />Dam by installing gates in the spillway. The purposes of this <br />project is to increase reservoir storage capacity and to provide <br />a larger irrigation water supply to Arch Hurley Conservation <br />District. <br /> <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />12. High Plains Study. P. L. 94-587 authorized the Depart- <br />ment of Commerce to undertake in cooperation with federal, state, <br />and local entities a study to develop plans to increase water sup- <br />plies in the High Plains and to examine the feasibility of various <br />alternatives to provide adequate supplies to the area.
