Conneetion channel eonstruction is <br /> <br />essentially eomplete. Installation of the siphon is scheduled to begin in <br /> <br />mid-198l. <br /> <br />Some Rio Chama channel improvement work was aceomplished on the Chili Channel, <br /> <br />at the mouth of the Ojo Caliente, and at the Abeytas-Trujillo heading. This was <br /> <br />mostly maintenanee of work previously accomplished under Seetion 404 permits. <br /> <br />SAN JUAN-CHAMA PROJECT, COLORADO-NEW MEXICO <br /> <br />The Upper Rio Grande Basin Projects Offiee in Albuquerque is responsible for <br /> <br />O&M and water-aceounting funetions of the San "uan-Chama Projeet. <br /> <br />Diversion Dams <br /> <br />During 1980, diversions from the three diversion dams were continuous from April 8 <br /> <br />until September 21 when diversions were diseounted due to low water conditions <br /> <br />on eaeh of the three streams. <br /> <br />Bypass requirements on eaeh of the three rivers were usually kept eurrent on a <br /> <br />daily basis; however, when aeeumulated bypass volumes became defieient due to <br /> <br />low flows, no diversions were made during the month until the defieit was <br /> <br />eliminated. The experimental modified operation at Blaneo Diversion Dam eon- <br /> <br />tinued throughout the year. The modified operation, direeted at redueing sedi- <br /> <br />ment problems, is produeing satisfaetory results. Some refinements of the <br /> <br />equipment at Blanco Dam are intended to further improve operations. The <br /> <br />Parshall flumes whieh replaced the 120. V-noteh weirs at river gaging stations <br /> <br />downstream from the three diversion dams were rated through a joint effort of <br /> <br />Colorado and the Serviee. <br />
