Objective <br />The objective of the Union Park Water Supply Project is to provide a <br />dependab 1 e and renewable water supply to meet Arapahoe County I s future <br />municipal, industrial, irrigation, and other water supply needs. The <br />project will divert and store unappropriated water from the upper reaches <br />of the Taylor River and its tributaries for later delivery to the uses in <br />Arapahoe County and its contractual users, City of Gunnison, Parker Water <br />and Sanitation District, and Castlewood Water District. <br /> <br />B. location <br />Figure I I-I shows the general location of the Union Park Project. <br />Aeri al photographs of Union Park and proposed dam and reservoi r site are <br />presented in Figure / I-1A. The major features of the project are <br />located approximately 100 ai r mi 1 es southwest of Denver. The western <br />most project facility is the Union Park Reservoir located approximately <br />30 miles northeast of the City of Gunnison, Colorado. The proposed <br />reservoir site is located in Union Park, a high mountain park. located <br />directly north of Union Park is the Taylor Park Reservoir. <br /> <br />C. Project Background <br />The concept of the Union Park Project was developed by the Natural Energy <br />Resources Company (NECO). In Case No. 82CW340, NEeO secured from the <br />Water Court a conditional \'1ater right decree for hydroelectric power <br />generation. Subsequently, NEeD filed an application with the Water Court <br />in Case No. 86CW226 for water storage rights, surface water rights and a <br />change of water rights. <br /> <br />-1- <br />
