The pumping facilities and tunnel are

designed to carry 1,000 cfs.

4.

Pumping/Generation Plant
A pump/turbine systel]1 is proposed for the water transfer facil ity

because of its proven history of providing reliable service. The

system can operate in a normal pumped-storage mode during the

periods when transfer to long-term storage in Union Park Reservoi r

is not bei ng made. Fi gure / I -3 presents a si te arranyelilent for

this plan.

The size of the pump/turbine was selected to meet the expected

maximum inflow in other than extreme flood conditions.

Based on

review of the Taylor Park Reservoir release record to date, a 1,000

cfs pumping rate would meet all but the extremely high and rare
inflow conditions. The pumping rate of 1,000 cfs and a design head
of 600 feet results in a unit capacity of 60 MW. The maximum unit

-7-
