<br />- 29 - <br /> <br /> <br />I' 0" A,':: : I <br />lJ' J..)_'d~.t <br /> <br />Colorado State Conservation Board <br /> <br />The State Soil Conservation Board is charged with the responsibility of <br />fostering the conservation of soil and water resources of the State by <br />disseminating information throughout the state concerning the activities and <br />programs of Soil Conservation Districts and promoting and assisting in the <br />organization of Soil Conservation Districts. The Board is charged with the <br />allocation of state funds used for financial assistance to the Soil <br />Conservation Districts. <br /> <br />The Board receives watershed protection and flood prevention applications <br />and determines feaSibility for them. The Board may act as the state <br />contracting agency. It may also serve in the same capacity for resource <br />conservation and development projects within the state. <br /> <br />The Board is also charged with coordinating the programs for soil <br />conservation districts within the state through the supervisors of local <br />district boards. The Board also acts as liaison between local soil <br />conservation districts and a number of federal agencies on problems pertaining <br />to local districts and member landholders. <br /> <br />Colorado Division of Water Resources-State Engineer <br /> <br />This Division is responsible for the administration of the water supply <br />of the state. The state statutes mandate that this division shall ensure <br />that the state waters are preserved for the use and benefit of the citizens <br />and inhabitants of the state for its growth, property and general welfare. <br /> <br />The Division of Water Resources is responsible for carrying out the <br />following activities: <br /> <br />a. Operations of the Information Service program. This involves the <br />collection, storage, and dissemination of water rights data and <br />results of technical investigations and provides information to the <br />general publ ic. <br /> <br />b. Statewide regulation, analysis and coordination of groundwater use <br />and supply in the state. <br /> <br />c. Evaluation of Colorado's surface water. This includes: <br />(1) Evaluation and approval of plans for new dams and inspection of <br />existing dams to maintain adequate safety standards. <br />(2) Coordination of the actual measurement of surface water <br />suppl ies. <br />(3) Evaluation and approval of requests for surface water supplies <br />by subdivisions, industries, etc. <br />(4) Collection, storage, and evaluation of data on the amount of <br />water available in the state. <br />(5) Provides geo-technical support within the Division and to other <br />state agencies. <br />
