<br /> <br />Cooperative Extention Service <br /> <br />The Extension Service serves as liaison between research agencies, <br />educational institutions, local, federal, and state agencies, landowners, and <br />other individuals. It makes information and education materials in improved <br />crop varieties and livestock, land management use and practices, soil testing, <br />and other similar problems relating to livestock, crops, range, farm ' <br />management, and economics available to all groups of individuals who are <br />interested. <br /> <br />County Agents in the Basin are actively assisting in the identification and <br />solutions of the water and related land resource problems and needs. <br /> <br />Other Programs - Federal Agencies <br /> <br />United States Department of Interior-Bureau of Reclamation <br /> <br />Narrows Unit, Colorado <br /> <br />The proposed project is located along the South Platte River approximately <br />7 miles west of Fort Morgan, Colorado. The project is anticipated to be a <br />multipurpose development serving the functions of irrigation, flood control, <br />recreation, fish and wildlife enhancement, and improvement of water quality. <br />Storage water would be released as necessary from the reservoir to supplement <br />irrigation downstream on approximately 166,370 acres of the Lower South Platte <br />Water Conservancy District. <br /> <br />Other Programs - State Agencies <br /> <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board <br /> <br />The broad statutory mandate of the Colorado Water Conservation Board is <br />to secure the greatest utilization of the water of the state, to prevent <br />floods, and to protect the rights of the state in interstate streams. In <br />this context, the Board is the state's policymaking and water planning agency <br />in all matters concerning intra- and interstate water development, <br />conservation and management. Furthermore, it has the responsibility of <br />coordinating its functions with other state agencies and with other units of <br />government, both federal and local, and of representing the state in <br />interstate forums. <br /> <br />The Colorado Water Conservation Board is responsible for carrying out <br />programs in seven major areas: <br />Project planning and construction; <br />Flood control and floodplain management; <br />River basin (regional) planning; <br />Protection of interstate waters and compacts; <br />Instream flow appropriations; <br />Colorado River Basin salinity control; <br />Hydrologic investigations. <br /> <br />- 28 - <br />
