nJ32~~ .

.

,

COLORADO WATER CONGRESS RESOLUTION - 1967 - 3

TRUE CONSERVATION

WHEREAS, small but highly vocal groups devoted to the
goal of destroying the soundly proven principle of multiple
use of the nation's natural resources have, in recent years,
mounted ill-founded and hysterical attacks on that principle
by urging single use preservationist theories on our state
and Federal legislators; and

WHEREAS. such attacks rather than being motivated by
a rationalJ.knowledgeable attempt to solve urgent national
problems, ignore the realities of an exploding population
and a dwindling effective water supply; and

WHEREAS, a recent attempt to have the Colorado Legis-
lature adopt as its policy the thinking of these groups
occurred with the introduction in the 46th General Assembly
of House Joint Memorial No. 1006 which would have the General
Assembly request the Federal Congress not to authorize the
construction on the Colorado River of facilities necessary
to make the fullest and wisest use of the waters of that river.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Colorado Water
Congress opposes the adoption of HJM No. 1006 and urges the
Colorado General Assembly to follow its historic policy of
endorsing the soundly proven and wise policies of the multiple
use of the nation's natural resources.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution
be sent to the Governor of Colorado, the members of the 46th
General Assembly and to all of Colorado's Congressional
Delegation.
