Black Footed Ferret <br /> <br />The black-footed ferret is an endangered species, and if it survives <br /> <br />at all in Colorado it is in very low numbers. Armstrong (1972) reported <br /> <br />that all sighting records known to him over the past 20 years were from the <br /> <br />eastern plains of Colorado or the extreme southwestern corner of the state. <br /> <br />The decline of tbe ferret is probably directly related to control of prairie <br /> <br />The Colorado Division of Wildlife (1976) reported in their study of the <br /> <br />> <br />,> <br />" <br />i <br />'~ i <br />" <br />,,; <br />l;_ <br /> <br />dogs, the ferret's primary prey. <br /> <br />Dallas Creek Project that "Habitat for the black-footed ferret exists at <br /> <br />;'i <br /> <br />'~ <br /> <br />prairie dog towns scattered throughout the area. Jordan collected specimens in 1889 from the Gunnison River at Delta <br /> <br />as well as in the Uncompahgre River. It has been well documented that <br /> <br />.~-~ <br /> <br />~'.' <br /> <br />squawfish were taken in significant numbers from the Gunnison during the early <br /> <br />11 <br />
