No recent reports of squa~fish above Delta are known. <br /> <br />All collections appeared to be large fish, ~hich may suggest that most of <br /> <br />these fish likely ~ere spawning migrants from the Colorado River. The last <br /> <br />confirmed collection of the Colorado squa~fish by hook and line on the <br /> <br />Gunnison River ~as in the Escalante Wildlife Area of the Gunnison in 1965. <br /> <br />Surveys by Kidd (1977) failed to collect any Federally endangered species <br /> <br />in the Gunnison River. Ho~ever, in a letter to Dr. James Johnson, USFWS, <br /> <br />August 20, 1976, Dr. Paul Holden indicated that one squawfish ~as captured <br /> <br />and tagged and t~o other rather large (6-10 Ibs.) specimens were observed in <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />! <br /> <br />the Gunnison River bet~een the High~ay 141 bridge and the mouth of the river <br /> <br />, <br />, <br />" <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />on July 21, 1971. <br /> <br />The Redlands Diversion is located on the Gunnison River approximately <br />...'
