I
I
I
I
I

- _." ......
'. , . tl
,./....

ENGINEERING

55

pipe line is scheduled early in the succeeding fiscal year to be fol~
lowed by specifications for the Garvey-Victoria Street feeder line
and the Century Boulevard lateral.
The La Verne-Garvey line is an essential part of the middle
feeder system, but will be deferred until additional capacity is
required to supplement the Palos Verdes feeder. This need may
develop in the near future if a prospective, large annexation in
Los Angeles County is consummated. Prior to completion of the
La Verne-Garvey line, the middle feeder system will be served by
means of the portion of the existing Palos Verdes feeder extend-
ing from Eagle Rock Canyon to Ascot reservoir, which will trans-
port a maximum of 210 cubic feet per second, or sufficient to
supply the southern portion of the Palos Verdes system, with a
remainder of about 110 cubic feet per second for supplying the
middle feeder system.

LOlVer fccdfJ1" system
The lower feeder system in Riverside and Orange counties wiJI
include the proposed 10-foot diameter Cajalco tunnel extending
7,500 feet southwesterly from the distribution system head works
north of Lake Mathews, a pipe line 18 miles long cxtending from
the tunnel to the Santa Ana River in the vicinity of the town of
Olive, a connection 2 miles long to the two canals on the south
and north banks of the river, and a branch pipe line 7 miles long
extending southerly to the Santiago reservoir of the Irvine Com-
pany. The tunnel is designed to convey the ultimate 750 cubic feet
per second capacity of the lower feeder, while the pipe lines to be
constructed i'1i1i!!IlL ;!.W_ba_vlLa_capacity_oL200_cubiC-feet_pel"---- ---
second from the tunnel to the Santa Ana River delivery points,
and 100 cubic feet pel' second to Santiago reservoir. The location
of these facilities is shown on figure 1.
Specifications for the Cajalco tunnel of the lower feeder were
ready for issuance at the close of the fiscal year.
Field surveys were in progress on the lower feeder pipe lines
during the fiscal year, as were studies in regard to design features
of the. main pipe line to be constructed initially. Annexation of
an additional coastal area in the southerly part of Orange County
is in prospect, and may bring about an early increase in the service
area of the lower feeder.
Other pipe lines under consideration in Orange County include
a lateral extending 6 miles westerly from the existing Orange
