Fortunately the wire fell to the ground without <br />interrupting service. <br />Before installing the new dampers, the stranded steel ground <br />cable was reinforced by twisting preformed armor rods around it. <br />The added strength is sufficient to prevent failure of the steel cable, <br />even with all strands broken within the reinforcement. The length <br />was continuous through the dampers and the point of 8lIspension of <br />the cable. This required a larger suspension clamp at each point of <br />support. <br />There were no nonscheduled outages due to causes originating <br />Oil the 230-kl' line. However, thel'e was one outage caused by light- <br />ning on the 69-kv line, between Gene and Intake pumping plants. <br />Service was restored immediately after the outage. <br />A list of nOllscheduled outages on the transmission system, as <br />showll by the following table, indicates the value of overhead ground <br />wires. <br /> <br />FI<'c.-\1. The most extensive trouble occurred on July <br />28,1951 when 14 poles, near Wide Canyon, were washed away during <br />a flash flood.
