Pathfinder Reservoir

Pathfinder storage of 529,700 acre-feet at the start of the water
year was above a 17-year average of 349,800 acre-feet.

During the winter, water was transferred from Seminoe to Pathfinder
Reservoir for power generation and to achieve certain reservoir
storage positions. Pathfinder Reservoir reached a maximum storage
content of 765,300 acre-feet on February 1, 1977. Thereafter, the
reservoir was drawn down to meet downstream irrigation demands.

As the drought and downstream irrigation needs continued throughout
the summer, releases through the Fremont Canyon Powerplant appeared
to be insufficient, and the river outlet valves were opened on
July 25. The valves were operated for a total of 21 days, during
which time 64,700 acre-feet of water were released. During this
period, the release, including Fremont Canyon Powerplant, averaged
3,800 ft 3/ s.

There were 249,500 acre-feet of water in the reservoir at the end
of the water year, which was below the 17-year average of 349,800
acre-feet.

At the end of the water year, 853,700
in Seminoe and Pathfinder Reservoirs.
will require an above-normal snowpack
storage levels by next year.

acre-feet of water were stored
This is below normal, and
this winter to reach normal

Alcova and Gray Reef Reservoirs

During October and early November, the water level in Alcova Reservoir
was lowered 10 feet to the normal winter operating level (elevation
5488.) This water level was maintained until April 3, when the
summer refill was started. The normal summer operating level
(elevation 5498) was attained on May 6 and continued at that level
within + 1 foot for the remainder of the water year.

The Gray Reef release averaged 1,020 ft3/s during October. A release
of 900 ft3/s was started on llovember 2 to prevent icing problems and
continued until the middle of December, when it was reduced to
850 ft3/s. The release was further reduced to 750 ft3/s on February 25.

With above-normal Alcova-to-Glendo gains in April and early May,
Glendo Reservoir filled to 97 percent of its conservation capacity,
and the Gray Reef release was reduced to 450 ft3/s. The snowmelt
runoff between Alcova and Glendo Reservoirs peaked at 2,290 ft3/s on
May 17; in addition, a rainfall peak of 4,320 ft3/s occurred on July 13.
