IJ, .. 2' '. ')
d.L ~

The 1977 drought caused storage levels in Carter and Lake Granby
to drop sharply and the lakes were depleted by the end of the water
year. Seasonal water deliveries for the Colorado-Big Thompson Project
totaled 288,500 acre-feet and were 145 percent of a l7-year average.

With a total yearend storage of 257,400 acre-feet in Lake Granby,
Horsetooth Reservoir, and Carter Lake, above-normal precipitation
will be required this winter in order to provide an adequate water
supply in 1973.

Serninoe and Kartes Reservoirs

There were 865,300 acre-feet of water stored in Seminoe Reservoir at the
beginning of the water year which was 130 percent of the 17-year
average.

As a result of below-normal winter inflow and precipitation, Seminoe
Reservoir was slightly below plan on February 1. The February 1
forecast of the April-July runoff was 44 percent (330,000 acre-feet)
of a 17-year average. The forecast was reduced to 36 percent on
March 1 and then increased to 38 percent on April 1. All the forecasts
proved to be fairly accurate as the actual April-July inflow to Seminoe
Reservoir totaled 313,600 acre-feet which was 41 percent of average.
This was the third lowest inflow of record since 1905. The record low
April-July inflow of 166,900 acre-feet occurred in 1934.

Prior to the February 1 forecast, Seminoe and Kortes Powerplant units
were used as controlling plants for the Western Division Power System.
During the perigd October 1 - February 1, power releases varied from
900 to 2,600 ft Is. However, after a low February 1 forecast, the
Kartes ~eservoir release was reduced to the minimum fishery requirement
(500 ft Is) and maintained at that level for the remainder of the
water year.

With a low April 1 forecast and continued minimum release for fishery
requirements, Seminoe Reservoir was lowered to the minimum storage
content of 486,700 acre-feet on March 22. A maximum storage content
of 672,600 acre-feet (66 percent of capacity) was attained on June 22,
1977 .

There were 604,200 acre-feet of water stored in Seminoe Reservoir on
September 30, which was below the 17-year average of 664,500 acre-feet.

14

.~:~. :'::,' .~.:~" ~ --; ~.~~:--.:...
