Although the local >;upply is adequate for the city's pre>;ent
needs and immediate use of Colorado River water is not contem-
plated, it was considered desirable to have stand-by service available
as a precautionary measure.
Bids for construction of th" lateral were received in February
1949, but none of the proposals was considered acceptable and all
bids were rejected. The work was readvertised, and a contract was
awarded May 20, 1949, to Wucetich Construction at its low bid
of $66,702.10, The pipe lin" consist" of 5,405 feet of 16-inch steel
cylinder concrete pipe with rubber-gasketed lock joints. The line
begins at a turnout from the upper feeder on the prolongation of
l\1ountain Street in Pasadena. and extends southerly along North
Foothill Boulevarct and Sierra Madre Boulevard to the previousiy
mentioned terminus south of Walnut Street.
