<br />I <br /> <br />.;:. ,11 <br />'...1"'''' ..:.. <br />OPE RAT ION AND ,1,' IN TEN A NeE <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />3.1 <br /> <br />f, <br />t <br /> <br />Verdes tunnel and pipe line north for a distance of 3,400 feet was <br />made which revealed satisfactory conditiong. <br />A new service connection was installed and a concrete meter <br />vault constructed by the City of Los Angeles at Brooklyn Avenue <br />and Matt Street on the Palos Verdes feeder in January [tnd Feb- <br />ruary 1949. <br />In August 1948 the Diotrtct sold the easterly 1.29 miles of the <br />Compton lateral to the City of Compton for the sum of $30,000, <br />This sale made necessary the moving of the District venturi tube <br />and flow meter from the original location on Rosecrans A,'enue <br />near \Vilmington Avenue to a new location on Rosecran~ near <br />A valon Boulevard. This work was performed at the expense of <br />Compton by District maintenance forces in September and October <br />1948, and involved the construction of a new reinforced concrete <br />vault, cutting out a pipe section at the new location and exchanging <br />it with the venturi tube section removed from the old location, <br />A new active del"'ery point was established on the upper feeder <br />for the City of Pasadena at Sierra Madre Villa Avenue by the in- <br />stallation by the city of a 20-inch gate valve and new venturi meier, <br />Tne first water was taken at this connection on September 20, 1948, <br />Leaks on the upper feeder of about lli~ gallons per minute <br />each were observed in Januar,' 1949 at station 943+57, 1822+22, <br />81,,1 1827 + 50, Repairs were made b,' grouting the pipe joints. A <br />leak was repaired in the Orange County feeder in La Verne at <br />Walnut Street just south of the softening plant. The pipe was <br />cracked adjacent to the concrete in casement for the Pacific Electric <br />Railway tracks, Repairs were made by bolting a steel calking band <br />to the incasement and calking with lead wool and cement. Gravel <br />backfill was placed around the pipe. Three small leaks in the 21-inch <br />concrete pipe of the Orange County feeder south of Corona Del <br />Mar regervoir were repaired uy calking and p(llIring concrete collars <br />around the sections. <br />Delivery meters on the Orange County feeder at Wilshire A venue <br />in Fullerton, Center Street in Anaheim. and at Corona Del Mar <br />were removed, adjusted, and reinstalled in March 1949. In May <br />1949 the Orange County reservoir outlet meter was removed for <br />repairs to the propeller and reinstalled, The relief valves at the <br />108th Street structure of the Palos Verdes feeder were overhauled <br />and new pilot vaJ\'es installed, <br />The Palos Verdes reservoir was thoroughly cleaned after having <br />been drained to a minimum depth of 23 inches in Februar:, 1949. <br />The sloping sides were swept with a [Jower sweeper and the dis- <br />
