Construction of <br />the 71.1-mile San Diego aqueduct by the U, S. Navy from the west <br />portal of San Jacinto tunnel to San Vicente reservoir of the San <br />Diego city water system was completed in November 1947. As one <br />of the terms of annexation, the District agreed to assume payment <br />of one half the cost of the San Diego aqueduct over a period of 30 <br />years, In return for its payment and upon completion of the several <br />contracts with the United States and the San Diego County Water <br />Authority covering disposition of the aqueduct and related matters, <br />the District will be vested with ownership of the northerly half <br />of the aqueduct, By the terms of annexation also, the District has <br />assumed the obligation to increase the capacity of this section <br />when enlargement is required. The division point of ownership <br />will be North Station 1920+00 located 50 feet southerly of the <br />north end of the San Luis Rey steel siphon, The northerly half of <br />the aqueduct is now being operated and maintained by the District. <br />This portion includes 34.8 miles of precast concrete pipe line from <br />48 to 96 inches in diameter, a 6-foot tunnel 0,9 mile in length, and <br />the San Jacinto regulating reservoir, with a capacity of 1400 <br />acre-feet, <br /> <br />'! <br />I <br />
